Love the idea of experimentation/gamification, so let’s define a few ideas and really give them a go.

I need to get rid of at least 15 pounds in the next 2 weeks, so here’s the start of another glorious experiment. I’ll log my progress here day-by-day, so there’s my accountability for all my fans out there 😉
I’ll start tomorrow 8/4 and go from there following these rules:
8/4 – looking good so far. Just water and coffee until lunchtime!
One thing I’ve learned is that chasing too many goals will leave you in one of 2 states…ready?
State 1 – Paralyzed
Whenever you get enough time and energy both available in the same place, you basically think about the goals/hobbies/activities that you want to do, pick one (somehow) and execute on whatever plan you have to achieve the goal.
Problem is…
You brain wants to do all of them, all of the time so is unable to clearly pick one out the pack. Or else you have so many that your brain starts to prioritize or even categorize them even further so you’re left spinning.
State 2 – Unsuccessful/Unfulfilled
You do one, but knowing that you have a laundry list of others, you feel a sense of emptiness, that fuels your apathy – that you’re not doing them all justice. In addition to that, you get the sense of futility that you can’t possibly get to all of them so why even bother!
What to do…? Follow me here…
The number one technique here is (as Warren Buffet clearly states) – pick a very selective, limited set of goals to work on at any one time. That doesn’t mean that you’ll never get to those other goals – it just means that you’re narrowing your focus. So, you have 3 choices here:
1. Pick something easy (your brain doesn’t know the difference)
2. Pick something small/short-term – in order to gain some success and build momentum
3. Pick something that will give the biggest impact
I’m going to combine four of my obsessions into an experiment.
This grand endeavor will be an attempt to combat …
I’ve re-typed this first line a few dozen times now, not because I’m uncommitted to doing this but simply because I feel a bit odd talking into an empty room. Maybe in time, someone might wander in and listen…
Still, in the words of GaryVee, let’s not dwell!
Day 1 – I wrote down a huge long list of possible Life Goals that sound about right for this point in my life. Next step is to triage it and pick some quick wins (as your brain doesn’t know the difference between succeeding in a small goal versus a big, audacious goal). I’ll pick between 3 and 5, put on the timelines, get my Why and plan it out.
Let see…why not… RIP Kobe..
